It has been revealed that £37million will be awarded to the planned offshore wind development off the Aberdeen coast, with tens of millions going towards a transmission hub off the north coast linking Shetland to mainland Scotland.George Lyon MEP: Scotland 's Liberal Voice in Europe

Commenting, Mr Lyon said:

"This is good news for Scotland. The funding from the EU is a huge vote of confidence in Scotland’s renewable energy industry.

"Scotland has the potential to be Europe's renewable powerhouse, and this money will help unlock that potential. This timely investment by the EU in Scotland's skilled workforce will provide much needed jobs during the deepest recession for generations.

"This level of investment shows just how vital it is that Government at both Holyrood and Westminster work with Europe to get the best deal for Scotland."
